Nehru Institute of Technology Celebrates World Food Day with a Rally
Coimbatore, October 22, 2024 – A rally was held today at the Nehru Institute of Technology, a prominent institution in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, organized by the Department of Food Technology and Agricultural Engineering in celebration of World Food Day. The rally took place in front of the Media Tower at the Coimbatore Race Course, emphasizing the theme of “The Right to Food for Well-being and a Better Future.” Over 400 students from thei Nehru Educational Group participated in this event.
In a message, Dr. P. Krishnakumar, CEO and Secretary of the Nehru Educational Group, noted that World Food Day is celebrated annually on October 16 to commemorate the founding of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization in 1945. The announcement for this day was made during the 20th General Conference of the organization in November 1979 and has since been celebrated in over 150 countries.
He highlighted the issue of food scarcity in various parts of the world and urged that every morsel wasted could be a lifeline for those suffering from hunger. Therefore, we should avoid wasting food and focus on consuming nutritious foods that contribute to a healthy body.
The rally was inaugurated by Mr. Murali, owner of A1 Chips. Notable attendees included Inspector Mr. Arjun from the Race Course Police Station, K.S. Kanna, President of the Indian Dairy Association Tamil Nadu, Ganesh Thantri, Director of Agnya Wellness Products, Sivaraj, Principal of the Nehru Institute of Technology, Dr. H.N. Nagaraja, Executive Director of the Nehru Educational Group, Mr. A. Murali Tharan, Director of Public Relations, along with Dean , Heads of Departments and faculty members from the Department of Food Technology and Agricultural Engineering.
The rally commenced at the Media Tower in Coimbatore Race Course, proceeded along Race Course Road, and concluded back at the Media Tower.
