About IIC:

In order to systematically promote the innovation culture and start-up ecosystem in educational institutions, the Ministry of Education (MoE) launched the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) program in 2018 through the MoE’s Innovation Cell (MIC) in partnership with AICTE for Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs). In order to establish and stabilize the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem in HEIs, it is primarily the responsibility of IICs to involve a large number of faculty, students, and staff in various innovation and entrepreneurship related activities, such as ideation, problem solving, Proof of Concept development, Design Thinking, IPR, project handling and management at the Pre-incubation/Incubation stage, etc. The IIC approach is intended to solve the current problems and challenges faced by HEIs, including a lack of participation in and irregularity of planned Innovation & Entrepreneurship (I&E) activities.

Major Focus: 

1. To establish a thriving ecosystem for local innovation.
2. HEIs’ startup-supporting mechanism.
3. Get the institute ready for the Atal Ranking of Institutions based on a framework for innovative successes.
4. Create a functioning ecosystem for concept scouting and idea pre-incubation.
5. Students’ cognitive abilities will improve.

Function of IIC: 

1. To carry out the several IPR, innovation, and entrepreneurship-related tasks that MIC has specified in a timely manner.
2. Recognize and honor innovations; also, disseminate success tales.
3. Set up a mentorship program for student innovators and schedule recurring workshops, seminars, and meetings with professionals, investors, and entrepreneurs.
4. Create a network among colleagues and national organizations that support entrepreneurship.
5. Establish an innovation site for the institution to showcase creative initiatives undertaken by staff and students.
6. Involve industries in organizing hackathons, concept competitions, mini-challenges, etc.
